“No woman should face breast cancer alone.”
With this motto, BCI Pakistan in Lahore brought together breast cancer survivors and patients
who have benefited from its services on October 8, 2025. It was a special opportunity for
survivors to share their experiences and meet the doctors who have cared for them.
Radiation oncologists from NORI Hospital also joined the event to connect with their patients
and share ideas. Many women shared about their fears and struggles. A common concern was
that some patients turn to faith healers (Pirs) because financial difficulties make it hard to afford
proper medical treatment.
One patient, for example, traveled seven hours by bus from Khanewal because she could not
pay for treatment in Multan, just an hour away. After receiving her first dose of chemotherapy,
she is now feeling much better—both physically and emotionally.
The patient care navigator model has made a big difference in supporting these women.
Patients say they feel deeply connected to their navigators, describing them as “like sisters who
go with us to our appointments and stand by us.”
These stories remind us how strong these women are—and how important it is to give them not
only awareness and education about breast cancer, but also the financial and emotional support
they need. Awareness alone is not enough; true care means standing beside them every step of
the way.
